Age-friendly pickleball, light movement, and memorable experiences in a modern and welcoming facility.
11 Sports & Social Club offers retirement homes and senior living communities a fresh, fun, and accessible group outing built around pickleball, light movement, and social connection.
Our indoor facility provides a welcoming environment where residents can learn the game, enjoy casual play, or participate at their own pace from our social area or court-side seating. No prior pickleball experience is required.
Each visit is tailored to your group’s comfort level, with a focus on movement, laughter, confidence, and community.
Not every resident needs to play to enjoy the outing. Some residents may want to participate fully. Others may prefer to watch, cheer, socialize, or try a few shots before taking a break. That is perfectly welcome.
Our facility allows residents to enjoy the outing in different ways, making it suitable for groups with a range of comfort levels, mobility levels, and experience.
Why Pickleball?
Pickleball is Canada’s fastest-growing sport, appealing to different ages and skill levels because it is easy to learn, social, and adaptable.
It is a game where strategy, touch, patience, and placement matter just as much as speed or athleticism, making it a welcoming activity for residents with different experience levels and abilities.
For many residents, pickleball offers a fun way to stay active, build confidence, and connect with others in a relaxed, low-pressure environment.
Physical Health Benefits
Low-Impact Cardio: Pickleball allows seniors to manage conditions such as hypertension and high cholesterol through engaging, low-impact exercise. It is often described as a “heart-friendly” alternative to running or soccer.
Improved Mobility and Balance: Regular play improves hand-eye coordination, reaction times, and agility, which directly helps in reducing the risk of falls and injuries in older adults.
Joint-Friendly Intensity: Due to a smaller court and slower ball speed compared to tennis, pickleball is less strenuous on joints, making it sustainable for seniors with prior back, neck, or shoulder issues.
Mental and Emotional Benefits
Cognitive Function: The fast-paced strategy and rapid decision-making involved in the game can boost memory, cognitive function, and problem-solving skills, potentially delaying age-related cognitive decline.
Combating Isolation: The sport provides a significant social outlet, combating loneliness that can arise post-retirement. It encourages camaraderie, laughter, and community building, often played in inclusive doubles formats.
Sense of Purpose: For many Canadian retirees, learning new techniques and competing provides a renewed sense of purpose and a “healthy addiction” that keeps them motivated.
Social and Lifestyle Factors
Cross-Generational Interaction: It acts as a unique, intergenerational sport, allowing retirees to connect with younger generations, as well as peers.
Accessibility: It is easy to learn and relatively low-cost to start, with many community centers and parks across Canada installing courts.
